After two years of dedicated and responsible work, the Presidential Advisory Commission for Peace and Understanding has fulfilled the mandate given by the President of the Republic, presenting a report that marks a milestone in the search for solutions to the conflict in southern Chile.
At the Aitue Foundation, we deeply value the work carried out by the members of the Commission, who undertook with commitment and good faith the complex task of developing concrete proposals through intercultural dialogue. This forum demonstrated that, even on historically sensitive issues, progress is possible when there is a willingness to listen to one another and respect different perspectives.
The report submitted is not just a document, but the result of a serious and participatory process that addresses the main challenges related to land, recognition, reparations, and development. We especially highlight the collaborative spirit that prevailed within the Commission, allowing for consensus to be reached on issues that for decades seemed intractable.
As a Foundation, we recognize the efforts of all those who participated in this process, as well as the Government’s willingness to promote a dialogue of this nature. Today one stage closes, but another equally important one begins. We trust that the proposals presented will be analyzed with the same seriousness with which they were developed, and that they will translate into effective public policies that contribute to lasting peace.
We invite all political, social, and territorial actors to approach this new cycle responsibly, recognizing the value of the work already done and joining the challenge of building, from this moment forward, the agreements that the country needs.
